    MAF Users!! Heads Up!

Well, I dilly dallied a lot on this one. Trying to figure out how to make a buck. But then I figured out, you guys are friends, and I wouldn't feel right selling a stock part that you can modify in 10 minutes to increase air flow. (I see Ben cringing)

Stock LQ1 MAF sensor is about 67mm. LS1 MAF is 75mm. The bodies match the internals. Just a little work needed to put the LQ1 internals into an LS1 MAF. 4 screws and 2 small tabs, made out of plastic, that can be taken off in a minute with a good file. Very minor modification to your airbox exit hose. (BTW,you can't open up an LQ1 MAF to 75mm. Not enough meat.)

I bought LS1 MAF ends on E Bay for less than 20 bux. I completed my install in about 30 minutes, minus time for a beer. (30 seconds) This is so easy, even a Caveman could do it! I'll get some pics later if anyone needs them. But it is pretty self explanatory.

Hey, what's that supposed to mean?

    That is so condescending.

Anyways, let me get this strait, you basically swap the LQ1 MAF's internals into the LS1 unit? Does this increase the upper limit of airflow measurement, or just not restrict airflow as much?

Do the math. 67mm to 75mm? And if you are sharp, you can open up the LS1 MAF to 80mm. The internals fit. Once you see how the MAF sensor is built. The internals are the same opening. (Actually the internals are open to about 85mm.)The bodies are all that change. Another GM fit-all. The LS1 internals will not read on the LQ1. Just so you know. 94 Cutty

That wasn't what I was asking, so don't be a smartass. I know that it will flow more.

What I was asking, will the LQ1 internals in the LS1 housing increase the MAF's ability to read MORE AIR? IE, my 3.4 is highly modded, going into a Fiero, and it will max out the stock MAF. So I want to know if this increases how much air it can read? A common problem, the first in fact, when modding a L67 is maxxing the MAF out, and that is what I want to fix, just on a 3.4l.

        Thanks, and good find!

with a larger bore and the same internals the MAF will actually be reading low on how much airflow there is untill you adjust the ecm to compensate

but if it isnt changing the signal for the ecm then what is the point? IIRC the MAF is not the bottel neck in the intake system.the stock TB is like 65 66mm's so a 75 mm maf will still beheld back by the tb. even after market tb's only go to 70mm..... i could see this for a ls1 TB conversion.

Aftermarket MAF's go all the way up to 90mm, and beyond, but that isn't needed for our engines.

The only reason I'm interested is because my motor will need a larger MAF, and it will need one that can read more air.

Well if you enlarge either or both doesn't really boost perf a whole lot for the simple fact the engine is designed to take in so much at a a set rate, if with a larger TB and MAF then the same amount of air over the RPM range will pass through a larger volumetic passage, and it will not impose a larger flow rate with stock settings and even then the engines are not big breathers.

The only real perf gain would be from less volumetic drag. Just like getting a new or better air filter... The engine will sound throaty, have faster spool up times, but gains of raw HP is minimal (BHP).

Granatellimotorsports makes a MAFS that will work on the DOHC.

Summit racing sells them in a standard and a cold air setup, but they are a bit pricey at 300 plus bux.

call me lazy but... could you mod one of these up (a LS1 bored out as much as possible with LQ1 internals)? and what benefits would such a thing get me (like power-wise or ?)?

you want to put 3.4 DOHC internals into an LS1? Can't do that. Im lost on what you are asking.

He wants to put LQ1 MAF internals, into an LS1 MAF. Go ahead, it works. Takes 10 minutes. But you will need some PCM tuning.

Power wise, I haven't dynoed it, but there is a noticable difference.

I dont mean to sound stupid but why cant you use the entire ls1 MAF. Internals and all
