    Moving Servers

By upgrade, I mean the title of our contract from gigasale to rocketone. They are both the same space and bandwidth, just different monthly pricing from 2 years ago to now. So I found a server that is the same price, 4.5 times the space, and 25% more bandwidth. Looks to have great service and little downtime. I had no issues with hostrocket but they aren't showing much love to someone who has been with them for 2 years.

I will be posting on the forum here shortly when I have the details of our move. We will try to keep downtime to a minimum. Hopefully we will be able to offer more perks to our members with the added resources

Good luck and I hope that everything gets transferred over without too many problems. I don't have any experience with PostNuke, so I hope transfering the database to the new host will be a fairly painless process.

Yeah, we are getting help from the techs on the new server with the database move. It looks like Ben got all the files and directories over so far...

If we can do it before DNS propagates, we'll try to do some testing (and maybe some upgrading) before it comes back online to make sure all the bugs are worked out and its as painless as possible for everyone.

Yeah, it is kind of funny... We almost went down as a fluke of not knowing any better!! I just happened to remember that it was about 2 years since we switched over, so I posted some news about it. Mentioned it to Ben and he remembered that we had signed up for a 2-yr deal with the current server. Went and checked on it and we had 3 days left. So he went to go re-up the contract, whereas he found out it was going to be an additional $30 for the exact same service we already had. So the search began for a new server.

As far as the donation goes... Either click on the "Support the Site" link in the left-side menu, or just follow the following link there:

Looks like it might be a little while before the move actually happens. Since we had such a short timeframe, we extended the contract onm the current server for 1 month. This will allow us to fine tune (and make some changes to) the site before we put it back online. Hopefully we can get everything to transfer over smoothly. But if it keeps going like it is right now (Ben and I both tearing our hair out), its not going to be a fun month. In fact, since Ben is pretty much illiterate when it comes to installing and getting all of this crap to work right, I'm going to have a long month...

if you guys are using MySQL for the database hit up the MySQL website and grab the MySQL Administrator tool and the MySQL Browsing tool (both free).

These tools are much more powerfull than using phpmysql also its much easier to back up and move entire databases around. If you need any help let me know.

Ill check those out, though im lucky to know how to do anything at all to the databases. I sound so pathetic for someone that grew up around computers and went to college for programming:P

Haha, its a lot shorter now too:P Got in the way so I whacked it.

Seems to be going smoother than I thought, though its not over yet. Manitcor had me download a program that I can't figure out though:P

well get it working for ya, sent ya a PM asking for some info so I can test your DB server for connectivity issues

gettting the administrator to connect the first time can be a pain, once you get the connection right though you can save the profile and all youll need is the password in the future.

Yeah, i got it working Didnt realize it was the actual database user name that it wanted, and that I had to add my info on the server to allow access from my computer. But its set so from now on this is gonna be a piece of hot fudge sundae Thanks for the advise, I really appreciate it.

The move has been delayed for alittle longer. We are currently looking at a total revamp for the most part with a new CMS and new forum software. From the tests we have run so far on a couple different forum programs, we might have a couple issues that may not be able to be resolved. Some of these issues could include avatar issues and attachment issues. I'm going to try to get everything working as best I can, but some people may need to work with me. Once we get a little further along, I'll give some more updates.

Well, I was trying something out on the new server, so I'm thinking everyone is going to get an email about this. Please don't go visit the other site yet, as we are still in the process of trying to get it to work....
