Yeah, I was gonna bring up the ServoDrive speakers... Apply AC current to a DC motor and attach the motor (via a linkage) to the cone of a speaker and voila, a speaker than has no low freq limit. Yeah, I started making one back in 94, but never finished it.

how bout the alternator, its a motor, but its backwards, making electricity out of kinetic energy instead of the other way around

We deal with engines, not motors. Motors are electric. And although they are brought up from time to time, our engines are not motors. Now, you can really say you have a multi-motor car.

How many motors, does your car have? Mine has 18. Can you name them?

Blah blah blah. It's TECHNICALLY not an ALTERNATOR. It's a GENERATOR. A generator has a built in regulator, common on GM cars. So it's a generator. (since this thread is being technical about motors and engines and all) But yeah, electric cars commonly have a feature called 'regenerative braking' It feels like downshifting, but it's the motor acting like a generator and coasting the car to a stop. So an alternator/generator/motor are the same thing.

Some cars have motors though. Like this one. Actually, it has 2 of them.

Wow! Tweaked some brain powers! Actually, any machine can be classified as a motor, and vice/versa. Your hand cranked window is a motor. The internal combustion engine,...is a motor. I prefer engine.

Note: This is not specifically rotational. Solenoids are motors. See #2. ANY of various power units that develop motion, or energy. ie. Your arm, lifting a beer, is a motor.

haha yup, my starter in my old 92 camaro went out and I was too broke o fix it, no biggie I became the master of push starting the car with one leg out the door.
