Use the B.F.H. to get it off.......BIG F$CKING HAMMER. Beat it hard alternating the sides you hit it on. Be careful it will just drop off at one point. It will move......cast iron is tough stuff so don't worry about breaking it. Just don't hit it against something hard like the concrete. Put the bearing housing in a vice and have the turbine housing unsuspended.2004 Black Cobra Vert

I got it apart. I used a brass dowl. Anywyas I took the whole turbo apart and there is some significant wearing on the bearings, such as grooving and a black film on the turbine side. Can the turbine shaft and the center section be machined or cleaned up from the grooving.

It can be but you will have to take it to a machine shop to have it done. You will also want to call garrett and find out what the next size of oversize bearings are. You might want to send it out if it has that much wear and leave it to the boys with the right feeler gauges and such. Check with Flybynite on tgpforums if you want to pay to have it done. Corbra, I went ahead and rebuild the turbo. It felt good after the rebuild with no oil in it. I put some oil in it and it was pretty tight. I drove the car today, and when i got home I checked it out again and noticed about 1-1.5 mm of play again. I am running a high flow oil pump, not buring oil that i can see. Why would this do it again?

1.5 mm is about 5.905494e-005 inches which is really tight! Those clearances are perfectly acceptable. What is happening is the bearings are wearing in so some play is expected, hell my brand new turbo has a little bit. Just keep an eye on it and if it starts to get greater then you have a problem with either the shaft, the housing and or you need to send the vanes out to be balanced before you rebuild it again. 1.5mm is about .060". There is no way that is within spec for a turbo.Ben

1.5 mm is 0.05905494 like you said 60 thousandths. Yeah I'm willing to bet you need a new turbine shaft/turbine wheel and a good balancing job. I would PM flybynite over on TGPforums he can tell you where to get your vanes balanced for very cheep. Sorry for the confusion Ben.
