    computer diagnostic with a laptop

    does anyone know if there are programs and cables available for diagnostics with obd2 and obd3 or ford or chrysler that can be used with a laptop
    i already have a couple of programs for the obd1

    Forgive me for sounding dumb, but what's OBD3? I haven't heard of it yet.

      obd 3 is what they pcms use now
      obd 2 was only used for like a couple of years as far as i know

        No... OBD3 isn't out yet. There has been some discussion about it, but its not in use yet.

          Are you looking for just a code reader to see what your SES light is for, or something that shows you what the PCM sees, like Autotap?

              Im not sure if there is a program, there probably is. But there are scan tools that you can buy to see the values. But they cost some $$$.

                      gm is not calling it obd3. its obd 2 CAN. computer area network. it inables tech2 users to diagnois drivability concerns by being able to control almost all engine functions. kill a cylinder,shut off an injector, ect.
                      if you don't have a tech 2 with the CANdi module. you can't acess these features.
