need to know ASAP if this ALDL cable will work

will the second shematic show on this page:

work, as is, for GM OBD I vehicles? I'm just concerned because it says "with espirit modifications"

it is the schematic labeled "ALDL to PC Interface Cable" (under the heading: "Advanced Interface with Esprit Modifications")

    thanks!

Yes, it will work. I have built one before, even have an extra MAX chip around here somewhere. But, take this quote from Andy's site into consideration:
"Expect to pay in the region of $70 - $100 for a fully assembled unit."

Which is just about right after all is said and done.

When you can purchase a fully assembled cable for around $50 shipped that uses the exact same circuit with a few improvements, one would have to consider if its even worth the time and trouble to DIY, as in some cases the result may resemble something more like a radio shack heathkit project gone horribly awry.

thanks for the speedy response. The reason I tacked on the "ASAP" to the title was because my father has offered to have it built at work and the sooner I get him the schematics the sooner he can have it done (I'm only home for a week for Thanksgiving break and I'd like to use this interface to find whats wrong with my 3.1). He is an electrical engineer so I'm sure building a clean functioning unit wont be a problem. Again thanks a bunch for the quick response!

did you get the cable to work with your 3.1? I've got a 91 firebird 3.1 that I'd like to get some datalogging done on.

I don't know, but I'm going to try Freescan. I have the 3.1L 730 ECU.

no, sorry I'm in CT. It may work, I couldnt say. Freescan read data on my 3.1 using the Lotus Espirit option, granted it was some whacky incorrect data, voltage showed up ok tho.

The 2 transistor one on that page works but it is a bit finicky at times.
