The only 3100 with a chip is the century or possibly another A body car. Tunercat has the editting software for it but I dont have a scanner nor the desire to use tunercat. Ive tuned gen 3 motors with other computers but you are pretty much screwed. That is, unless you have a 96, in which case you can contact DHP. Hell, i should contact DHP and just see about selling their computers since I refer to them so often:P

I purchased the tunercat file for the Century/Ciera 94-95 ECU. The file is for a manual transmission so, if you have an auto, you would have to swap or you'd have no chance.

I did some checking in the junkyard the other day. The Century engine and ECU is different than most tuneable ODBI ecu's in that it uses a different type of MAF sensor.

The Century's that I found in the boneyard also looked like they had some sort of electronic throttle control motor. It's a box on the firewall with two connections coming out of it to the throttle body which has the MAF sensor attached to it. After looking at the electronics, I'm tempted to not even mess with it and just setup an old MPFI ECU that has been more widely hacked. However, the idea of SFI is enticing too.

i dont see why the manual (um...what manual?) would use different code. There are no 3100 5 speeds though.

The tunercat file is only for a manual transmission. If you wanted to control an auto, you'd have to figure the stuff out for yourself. I suppose you could just stay stock and use an unmodified ECU from an auto though.

There were apparently some offered in the Century's.

In 94-95? Id have to see one to believe it. We weren't aware of the 3100 chip till a few years ago though so who knows. I really gotta see proof of this existing though. Thats why I was thrown off by tunercat saying it was a manual. Either way, you would just use the chip from an auto for an auto...same file will tune both auto and manual.

unless the tdf is incomplete ?
it would still be usuable in either case though, you jsut wouldnt be able to adjust anything related to the auto transmission?
couldnt you jsut read the chip and save it, then tune what you have with the tdf deffinition file ?

yup, thats how you tune a chip. It doesnt have any of the automatic trans code stuff in there? Hmm...weak.

According to ALLData and Kelly Blue Book, neither 94 or 95 was available with a manual....

Interesting. Supposedly you can still get the chip from GM. If anyone works at a dealership or is on good terms with the parts guys, it would be interesting to have someone check out the BMYD 1636 binary for the 16196387.

Since this chip works for Century's and Ciera's it could be for the Ciera.
