    Annoyed by off-throttle run-on

I didn't know how else to title this.

I just finished installing a 1992 3.4 DOHC 5-speed into my 1988 Fiero. The engine is a completely stock crate motor with a 9396 ECM and BCFA chip. The idle is very stable and there is gobs of torque above 3500 rpm. I love it. Except . . .

Apparently the IAC programming holds the idle up during shifting. As in, if I'm in second gear at 3000 rpm and upshift to third (off throttle, clutch in, upshift, clutch out, on throttle) the engine speed only drops to about 2900 rpm while the clutch is depressed. If I keep the clutch depressed and give it no throttle the rpm will just hang there for 5 seconds or so before dropping to idle speed.

I have been told this was GM's idea to give you smoother shifts. I just want the engine speed to drop to idle if I'm off the gas.

Is there IAC programming that can be substituted for what I have now?

set the throttle follower to 2. You could set the iac tables lower as well. i think they are based on mph.

Oh, you aren't tuning it? You should get the hardware to scan and burn chips. No one can sell you something that is spot on for how you want it to be. I spent some time on my car to get it how I wanted for the follower, start up (used to rev up then slowly idle down), and throttle response while driving. I sell a performance chip for the DOHC for better powerband and more hp but I do not do long distance tuning without the customer having the ability to burn a chip. No scanner needed for IAC changes but to get the most out of tuning, you should scan the computer.
