Question for the Gurus

While I wait for my 4X Speed cable, I know I will need to have a bootloader to be able to Download/Upload bin files to the PCM.

(I believe most GM OBD2 Pcms use Motorola 68332 chip? )

I really don't know assembly at all, but may have someone to help me (he codes low level language for AMD and now for HD TV tuners)

First step I have read is removing the chip and installing in a reader to dump the info.

Here is where my question lies;

All the OBD2 flash files I find are 512Kb, is that the WHOLE chip? If I give that file to this guy to work with, will it be possible to write the bootloader? or is there more info that absolutely needs to have the chip removed and dumped?

if the OBD2 PCMs are like the OBD1.5, then there are actually 2 flash chips inside the PCM. regardless, if you're going to actually remove the chip(s) from the PCB and install into an EEPROM reader/burner, you wouldn't need any type of bootloader.

it may be called something different, but on the 94-95 LT1, you use mode 3 commands and then the PCM spits out the entire BIN... i imagine given the correct command, the OBD2 PCMs should do the same. i've been trying to find something like hyperterminal to do it with the 93-95 3100, but can't find anything that wants to work with vista...

The Pcms do not have a routine built in to dump file unfortunately, so now I need to learn asm to write bootloader lol.

Well I took apart 1 Pcm I had here, The Flash chip said
INTEL

AB28f400BX
U8390438Q

So I assume it is an Intel 28F400BX based Flash Chip?

When I read that it is "motorola 68330 32bit code" that means that Chip is coded with a Code Style named motorola 68330 32bit ?

both things sound right. the OBD1.5 PCM i have torn apart at the moment has these things printed on it:

IDAPro supports the 68330...

I have seen IDA mentioned a few places I have been searching, I guess it is a Program I should get?

( I posted elsewhere that I had opened with Hex Workshop and even Olly Debugger lol, but Hex not showing me to much)

How old is version
The IDA PRO Disassembler and Debugger version 5.2

I seen mention of that version of over 2 years ago, not sure how up to date it is?
