Numbers written at back of engine.

Hi, I bought a used 3.1 engine and found numbers written at the back of engine. B129724 BR 386 . What does that means?

Good chance that engine was out of a wrecked vehicle and that was their stock number or some other reference?

lol ok, I was thinking maybe it was a rebuilder's reference since it's a engine/trans combo I separated myself that I bought from a guy who dismantled them from a junked tgp. Would a rebuilder write something here or only punch numbers on top of the pistons?

Hope they wouldn't punch numbers on top of the pistons.

Def a scrap yards identification process.

Why not? Thats how OEM companies mark their pistons.
