Yeah I decided to tear it down. Heads are at a machine shop getting checked out. I am going to pull the motor and take it all the way apart. Any ideas on affordable pistons to bump the compression? I cant spend too much on it as money is tight now. I would love to cam it now too but it's just not in the cards at the moment. I think this one will be a learning experience and then bench build a spare as time and money permits.

Edit: Will 3.4 DOHC pistons safely raise me to 11.5-1 without any issues aside from tuning? I live near Germ from DPP and he would be able to tune it for me.

that's too high for your current build without a bigger cam. and for DOHC pistons, the earlier years will get you to about 13.8:1. if you shave the heads .020, and use the mid 90's camaro 3.4 iron heads? head gaskets, that will get you around 10.5ish.

Germ eh. He hasn't been around online in a long time now.

Camaro pistons would be the way to go so long as you tune it. Usually a cam is installed with higher compression though.

Yeah. I did was thinking of the Camaro pistons. Any ideas on years for them? The thing is I dont have the cash for a cam right now. Tough call.

93-95 camaro. Higher compression will give you better performance and gas mileage so I would do it since you need pistons anyway.

3500 heads would lower the camaro pistons compression slightly too.

Whats the compression using camaro pistons in a 3400, and in a 3400 with 3500 heads?

9:1 for the 3400 with 3500 pistons. 28.6cc vs 32.4. I don't know what the camaro pistons do exactly.

But it is guaranteed that the camaro pistons will work? Will it be okay to drive 30 some miles untuned to get to Germ for tuning or will I have to trailer it? I most likely will do it then.

Wasnt there just a big discussion on using the camaro or DOHC pistons? Either compression is too high for pump gas, or the quench isnt ideal with all of the combinations of head gaskets, heads, and pistons.
