    CODE 42

Has anyone here had the pleasure of dealing with the dreaded code 42...an intermittent one too? I've researched, but I'd like to get more info from someone who's dealt with this.

i've never dealt with it personally, but replacing the ICM would probably solve the issue.

        at least test it.

or the crank position sensor. probably wouldn't be a bad thing to replace the ICM and coils. i have them, all new, and the OEMs are 15 years old with 159K miles. funny thing is...it's been 4 days without any problems.

I had this code on my 91 GP, It was the ICM... Also, It wouldnt hurt to put some dielectric grease on the ICM where the coils mount

X2 had this code and pulled 3 or 4 ICMs out of the JY and first one i put on fixed the problem.

my car would die, like it was running out of gas, hitting the pedal seemed to make it worse, then like 5 minutes later it started. then one day it wouldnt. lol

mine will start either cold or hot. it just starts weird and runs rough. so far, i've only had this problem during a cold start.

you might as well replace them.
and if you plan on moving them, that gives you a chance to check on the condition of the wires too. if the wires are broken or have been pinched or something, it could cause problems like this too. code 42 is just aiming you in the direction. so somewhere between and including the ECM and the ICM you have a problem

it can also be a few wires. either a ground, a positive supply, or the EST wire.

...well... why are you telling me where you need to look? lol jk. but yes, you are right. if you move the coils though to a different location, then you might as well re do all the wiring related to is aswell. why not? then you know its guaranteed to work and be free of problems for a longer period of time. *unless you let some stupid old fuck that thinks he knows what hes doing work on your engine! haha
