Thanks for the response guys work keeping me busy.Have checked all wire every thing is fine.I drove the car for 35 miles it ran like a brand new car, then it was like it ran out of gas the car has started only a couple of times since then and ran great. My father-in -law replaced the ecm without me saying yes because to me that is the last thing u replace. It has not started since. Is a 1987 a obd1 ecm and does it have to be flashed when replaced.I do know it controls the injectors .

87 is OBD1, likely a 1227730, did the MEMCAL get transfered from the old one to the new one? without it, you'll get spark, but no fuel injected.

the MEMCAL is the calibration. it's the equivalent of a portable "flash".

So does this mean the memcal is programed and there is no flashing needed?

correct. the memcal contains all calibration and algorithm required to run your engine/transmission.

unless of course the MEMCAL was damaged somehow, in which case it would require replacement/modification.
