Personally I don't think so but you've already apparently ruled out all of the relevant ignition components.

It cant really go out of time.

If the cps measures 980 ohms, all the ignition components are good and the plugs are known good then it should fire off assuming the wires are on right.

          What controls fuel timing?

So the PCM will control fueling based on the cam/crank sensor inputs

Got any idea what the test is for the 24x and the cam sensor?

talking through PM's I had a random thought... any of you OBD2 guru's think VATS could be the problem here?

Vats usually allows the engine to run for 2 or 3 seconds before shutting off the injectors.

The rusty destroyed coolant tower... LOL that's all you can really see with this photo.

Did you get the injector wires confused? If so the injectors wouldn't be firing in the right order.

                              Is the injectors/ harness on a 99 the same as a 2001?

If you happened to mix up the pushrods it would be pretty mad but since it passed a compression test it seems unlikely...

99 would have Multec 1 injectors vs Multec 2 on a 2001 so a different connector, otherwise no.
