Can I clean my oil filter adapter?

I'm it the middle of swapping a 2.8 into my 4wd '87 s10. The donor engine is out of a 2wd so the oil filter adapter in different. Want to swap in the adapter from the blown motor, but afraid of the possibility of metal shavings inside. is it possible to clean it out? if so how?

Take it apart and clean it out, there isn't much to an adapter. Ultra sonic cleaner works great for cleaning parts.
