    pick a cam

    I am building a 2.9L 60/v6 with a m90 sc.

    what cam would be the most suited for a rpm range from 1000-6000?

    would I need stiffer springs ?

    oh..and isn't a double rollerchain overkill on a mild cam ?
    wouldn't a single rollerchain be sufficient enough
    cause double would also mean more friction and inertia

    Double if you need the spring pressure. What is a 2.9 60V6? Bored over 2.8? Fiero from your sig (nothing under vehicle info). You need a boost cam, so id say you should get something custom ground. Shouldn't be a problem for your engine to get one from almost any cam company.

      well over here in belgium(europe) a custom grind will be expensive I think.

      I was thinking about using a 260 cam...

      the engine is a 2.8 bored to 2.9 with forged pistons.

        Delta cams will grind a custom cam for $100 w/o shipping if you send them an old cam they will only charge $55w/o shipping. Go to zz performance and look at their boost cams them copy the specs and give them to Delta. just don't go over like .490lift.

        Yes you will need stiffer springs but not overly stiff. Double Rolller chain means less stretch if any and less friction because its a roller chain. Sometimes I do love these motors for the cheap cams.

        is that your motor in the sig? If so I need so detailed pics and alot of detail. I have that picture on my comp just waiting ti talk to the person that owns this monster.

          nah..It's not mine.
          the owner of this fiero lives in sweden or finland I think.

          use google to find pictures..eh..search for fiero supercharged/supercharger
          than you have to be able to find it

          what do you drive in your fiero?

            To get to 6000RPM get the Crane 272 cam

              wouldn't a 272 cam cause a slope at idle?

              I still want my car to pass smog tests and have enough punch down low.

              heard bad things about double roller chains...they would strech realy fast..

              any comment on this?

                The 260 would be a great cam for your 2.8,get the cam kit[springs and lifters]....any good quality timing set will suffice but a Cloyes d/r would be better for extended hp operation.

                  I am going to pre warn you about the 99848 spring that Crane recommends. I have used them on 3 engines now and they have always been a cause of excess valvetrain noise at high lift. I believe that the damper binds with the outer spring and on high lift which causes a ticking noise that sounds like bad lifters. I still have them on my truck but they are used with a stock Camaro cam now and dont make noise. I used to use a 2030 cam and they made noise. Currently my buddy is runing the springs on a 4.3L Vortec with a Crane roller cam and he has the same identical noise. He is switching to Beehive springs as soon and the order comes in. If the noise is gone I will post on this site and maybe try and warn people.

                  I would recommend beehive springs from GM or Comp. Or use a convetional single spring from COMP.

                    ya dont like people calling thier bored over 2.8's a 2.9


                    well im using the comp cams 260 and at the time(year or so ago) with my 2.8 i had 2nd gen heads i was at max lift, actually i had to get fly cuts in my pistons to run with the 1.6 ers
                    talk to your engine builder and make sure your in spec still with an big lift cam

                    the 2.8 is great you can really get up the rpm's real quick

                      I am using a PAW cam. .443/.465 214/224 degrees at .050" Works very well for street and strip. The edlebrock is a very good choice too. A lot of small block springs will work. (1.6" install height) If you go 1.7" you will have to machine the heads, I prefer not to. Or go with differant retainers.

                        I am using the gen2 alu heads of a 3.1 engine(corsica).

                        ported/polished etc...

                        will these springs work on the alu heads ??

                          The late models like yours will use the 1.7" springs. And most aftermarket companies offer the 1.7's anyway. You may want to change the retainers, locks, and push rods too. As for the rockers, roller tip or full rollers are available.

                            do I search for the 3.1L engine then?
                            or for anything from a small block to abb v8

                            the p-rods have to be specific for the 3.1 alu head..thought there was no aftermarket performance p-rords for these engine.

                              I would go to the local performance shop. In your case, overseas, SummitRacing.com should have anything you need. 42% is next to insanity. Do you have a 3.1? GM did do somethings right. Some parts between the V6-60 and the small block are interchangable. Coil springs, push rods, connecting rods. There are lots of other cam places too.
