IIRC you cant use a 3500 head on a block smaller than a 3400... because of the valve clearance issues.

Im not aware of any valve clearance issues. The valves are the same size and location of the 3100 from 2000 on.Ben

then maybe its just the combustion chamber overlap that I'm thinking about.

Yeah, somehow it got spread around the various forums that the valves hit. Not sure who came up with that.Ben

It looks like they will be close to the cyl wall, though.Originally posted by SappySE107 View PostYeah, somehow it got spread around the various forums that the valves hit. Not sure who came up with that.

1.76. You can't use the VVT top end on the older engines (those do have valve clearance issues). cncguy has posted pictures of that setup and why it won't work.
Remember, aluminum heads have canted valves so they get further from the wall as you increase lift. Its the same as a stock 3100 in regards to valve to cylinder wall clearance.Ben

I guess it's not close enought to impede flow then? Its the same as a stock 3100 in regards to valve to cylinder wall clearance.

Didn't say that. When I am done with the new bench, ill be able to use different size bores. Then we will know just how much difference there is. I doubt the 3100 bore lets the heads flow as much as the 3400 but I would like to know for sure.Ben

Thats probably the impossible thing to do...Originally posted by sil View Postyea thats what i was told by who i cant remember...
is it possible to use on a 2.8 block?, or would that work, but just be kinda dumb to do ?
I say start with a 3.1 block and bore it over to a 3.4L and then use a 3400 head gasket. That would work right?

I don't think .118" is safe to bore a 3.1 block...Originally posted by 3400-95-Modified View PostThats probably the impossible thing to do...

This is interesting since...
...mods like these would help go unnoticed in California. So when I rebuild my 3.1 put the 3.4 heads on with say a newer style intake? I thought after 2000 the heads and intakes where the same for the 3100? Or are just the valves the same?
