3.4 Build-up

I have a 3.4 (L32) from a '94 Camaro (I think) that I am planning to put in an 88 Fiero. I am planning to turbocharge with about 10 PSI boost. I am not super familiar with these engines and would appreciated some info as I plan this.

1. Will the 3500 heads go on this block? What issues?
2. Can I use the Fiero intake manifold with the 3500 heads?
3. What about pistons. As far as I can tell nobody makes forged pistons for the 3.4. Can I get away with Hypereutectic pistons? Any recomendations? I believe I will need to hold the compression ratio under about 8.5.

1. Yes, but you will need to use aluminum head intakes as well.
2. See above. I can't remember if any Fiero intakes were used with aluminum heads...
3. You can get custom forged pistons from several manufacturers, but none will have anything off the shelf. Hypers should do fine with 10psi of boost. Depending on your ability to tune, you don't necessarily have to stay under 8.5 CR.

i dont think that will work, because the starter is on the wrong side for a 3.4L,, altho u can put a 3400 in so u should get one of those and sell me that 3.4.. lol, but really 3400 u can use roller lifters and the whole nine yards

its common practice to do a 3.4l ironhead swap into a fiero. there are templates on the net for drilling the starter holes on the even bank (2,4,6) side of the motor. the fiero intake is an ironhead only thing, so no it wont work.

so does this same dude make a kit to drill holes on the odd bank of a fwd block.. prolly have to build it up and re-machine it to get enough lenth for a starter, Ya think?? i would juss measure, but I olny have rwd blocks in my garage rite now

It costs $70 shipped, and I just picked up a used kit off of ebay for $35.

You do not need to do anything to the block to relocate the starter aside from drilling the holes for the relocation. That is all.

For the 3.4 install using all the fiero stuff you will need to do the starter mod as metioned and drill out 1 threaded hole on the block. Go to pennock's that is the 1st swap most do.

Now the AL heads... If you use the aluminum heads you will need all the intake and other stuff that go with them. They will bolt up to a 3.4 block but the compression will be like 13-15.0, No fiero ever came with aluminum heads. The aluminum heads have a combustion chamber that is half the size of the iron heads which equates for the high compression.

If your gonna build a motor than don't cut corners, it will only bite you in the ass later.
