    Rear mount turbo

I got lucky today and had a firebird with a rear mount turbo come in the shop, i have to admit after driving one i can say the system works better than i could have ever dreamed. Heres the info 5.7 car with rear turbo stock exaust, the car produces boost as low as 1400 RPM it was around 2 pounds there and produced full boost at 2800 RPM of 9 pounds, there was no turbo lag at all, and the intake temps where very good less than 130 even at full boost, the only thing i didn't like about the system was the way it oiled, the return goes into the oil cap and just looks cheesy. a remote oil system would make these units ideal, i would love to put on my car this things is awsome

Why..the reason for most of these systems is in cars that can't fit them. They use really small turbos and what if the electric oil pump goes out? To each their own, but in a car that has a 60V6 there should be room for a regular turbo set up.

yes the main reason is room, but they also have the advantage of being real easy to build the setup and install it. also if you have emmissions testing/inspection, you have the ability to just unbolt the entire setup and convert it back to "stock" within a couple hours. its a hotly debated topic on how good these systems realy are, but track times dont lie, and a z24 with a 3400 and remote mount running 12.5 isnt to shabby.

of and the oiling: it uses engine oil pressure to feed the turbo. it uses an electric scavenging pump to feed oil back to the motor. if the pump dies, the car just starts smoking cause the oil is building up in the turbo.

Yeah I'm in Nebraska and we don't have ANY emissions testing. So the visual would be a major plus.

yah and sts (who makes the rear turbo) has the patent on that scavenge kit for the oil, and it doesnt have to inject back through the cap, that is just the easiest place where they can feed alot fo oil and it not get in the way of anything else. plus they dont need to be intercooled to produce good power without robbing timing and they can be used to higher boost apps on stock engines. also with the methanol injection kit you can go massive boost on mostly stock engines with no kr, detonation, or any high heat temps under the hood, plus it helps take more advantage of a coated exhaust, keeping the heat in the gas and making the velocity higher, plus you can use them with better fitting headers and many other mods without making too many adjustments, cuts, or rearranging

and they even make a syst with dual tips where the waste gate goes through the one tip and the turbo is on the other

are they not using the oil cap return line? if not where are they putting the oil back in at?

so the smaller pipe running up the drivers side is the intake piping? does it have an intercooler also?

i rode for quite awhile in it and even without an intercooler the temps stayed down pretty far, about equal to what i used to pull on my roots/w2a setup.....

sts claims that the pipe running from back to front works as about a 50% efficient intercooler, and claim less that 0.5psi pressure drop, were a normal intercooler is 1.5-2psi. an intercooler actualy isnt needed.
