Custom pushrod end style

Hello everyone. I'm mating 03 3400 heads to a 3.1l gen II block and I need some help picking out custom length pushrods. Can someone tell me which end style from the Crane Cams custom pushrod form I will need? Also, can I just get the plain 5/16 diameter or does it have to be heat treated? Here is the custom pushrod form:

Smith Brothers makes great ones, i'm using them in my 3500. was $75 for a custom length set.

you need to get a length checker to be 100% sure but someone elses measurements should get you close enough. As long as you aren't using guideplates you won't need heat treated ones. Just go with the standard ball ends.

here are some that i dug up... Description in each..

That's using the 3100 heads with factory 1.6 Roller Rocker arms, Fel-Pro
Head Gaskets, and 0.020 shaved of the heads. Comp cam and hydraulic
lifters.

5.94 and 6.26 were my lengths.

Oh and Dave you just added the base circle radius loss to your pushrod length to get your new length correct??

Not to confuse you TazMan, you'll have to do a length check and then add preload to it. Seems like others have used .040 for a number.

Since so many others have done this swap I was going to use someone elses measurement for the pushrods since they are all so close. I spoke to bszopi on the forum a while ago who said that the measurements ranging from 6.25-6.275 exhaust and 5.94-5.95 intake are so close, I should just pick a size and go, and the lifter should make up the 1/100th" difference http://60degreev6.com/showthread.php...swap+questions. Is this correct?
Also I just received an e-mail back from Smith Brothers with some questions about the pushrods I inquired about.

"What diameter tube do you want? What's your open valve spring pressure and do the rods oil through?"

I think I read in a post that the diameter is 5/16. There form says the spring pressure is to determine the pushrod wall thickness. I don't know if the rods oil through. can someone tell me how to answer these questions?

Oil hole in center of rod YES, and spring pressure open can be found on the 3400 engine specs on this page.

*Edit 230lb open on a 3400 stock springs

5/16 it the tube dia, and the ball dia, and for reference the oil hole is .10 in dia.

a 1/100th difference will NOT matter to you in the least, the lifter preload will take that up that difference and 1/100th isn't enough to cause any issues, unless you were running 0-Lash, which you are not.

When you do assemble the motor though, with a set of calipers try to measure how far down the pushrod pushes in the lifter cup, which will give you your preload just so you know for future reference.

i've got some extra pushrods somewhere, i really should make a whole pile of adjustable ones and have Ben sell them in the store

Good note, but stock preload is more than that, I have tested that theory.
