    Newbie question.

I've been looking through the forum for all the different mods I can make to my engine. I have a 1997 grand prix with the 3100. I have a mixup with the hybrid though. I have access to a Lumina APV(going to find out what engine it has in the weekend), if it has the 3.4 or 3400(don't know), can I swap the whole top end for some performance gains?

the top end can be changed from the 3400 to the 3100. the intake manifold and the throttle body can be switched too. it would only be a minimal gain in hp though
Planning on doing 3800 Supercharged swap soon in either my 4cyl or 6cyl.

Difference between the 3100 and 3400 is port sizes and maybe the valves.

But if I port the uim and lim, wouldn't there be some gain . I've been looking at hte headers for some time now but a swap of the top end and headers would give more power right. Also I'm sort of making a supercharger from an old turbo, to see if there are any gains.

The 96-99 3400 stuff bolts right up. The heads are a nicer casting and have a 1.76" intake valve vs your stock 1.72". The manifolds are larger and ported would give you even more power. The 56mm TB vs your stock 52 would help, but you can also go 62 or 65mm, with porting to the upper to match.

You would see about 10hp from the stock 3400 heads and manifolds and TB. Check the pushrod articles (left side column) for flowsheets. You can see the large port flow and small port flow and see the difference.
