That is the same method, but if the cyl is at TDC, then you know the valves are closed . Acyally, you have a dual pattern cam, so you would be better off putting each cyl at TDC. The stock cam is a single pattern, so three can be adjusted at a time.

Thanks, that's what I'm looking for.

Now I just need to find out what size rocker arm studs I got.

The Bottom is 10MM to fit the heads the top is 3/8" to fit pretty much all after market rockers.

If you want 10MM bottom and top then get stock studs from an iron head motor. They are fully adjustable but use a crappy torque nut which is prone to backing off.

I've had no problems with mine. The stock heads went 89k miles, and were in perfect condition (even the inside of the cyls looked like they were honed yesterday ).

Alright. I'll grab some 3/8 nuts and pivots.

Why didn't you stick with the stock studs?

Because they didn't work? I put the roller rockers on them as a test and they wouldn't torque down enough because the stock ones are made to stop at a certain place.

I was also told the stock studs wouldn't work by several sources.

Where's a good (cheap) place to get the 3/8" pivots and locking nuts?

You just need to use washers between the pivot ball and the nut. Simple as that. Since it is not adjustable stock, all you are doing is making up for the rocker design difference.

Yeh. I didn't want to take the chance of getting the wrong sized washers.

Also the tops were smaller than the pivots that came with rockers, and I wouldn't want to reuse my old pivots, right?

Now that I think about it my brother has SBC motors in his garage. I'm not sure if he has headwork for them. Maybe I can bum some pivots off him.

I don't remember what I did with the ball pivot. I may have reused my old ones. I don't think it would hurt if you did anyway. As long as the washer isn't bigger than the pivot, its fine.

I'd have to get the right size washer, right? How thick and how many did you use?

12, but I don't know how thick. It really doesn't matter so long as you have threads for the nut.

Well I'm just going to pick up some new nuts.

Before I order anything I want to make sure I'm getting the right thing.

                            Now, these should work, right:

                            Part #270-99770-16
                            http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...49144_-1_11521

If my brother has some pivots from one of his SBC, I'll see if I can grab them. I don't see pivots sold separately at JEGS.

No don't buy that style they are not as reliable.

                              Buy these ones

or the ones from Crane or Comp they are all the same. The ARP ones have a 12 point head so if you don't have the right sockets for it get the Crane or COMP ones.
