Since there isn't much of a choice in aftermarket camshafts has anyone experimented with Advancing or Retarding the Factory Roller Camshaft?

there are tons of aftermarket cams for the 3x00 engines, and endless possibilities of custom grinds.

When I tried looking for a replacement for my 1998 3100 VIN "M" Roller Engine ALL that was available is the factory replacement.
I contacted Comp, Lunati, Isky, Cam Dynamics, etc.
Only Flat Tappets where available.

The prices are little too steap for me. And since I couldn't find anything in the past 4 weeks I had to settle for a replacement cam out of Iowa for $146 (shipping included).
But if I ever plan on building a killer 60* V6 I will keep the name in mind.

yah, roller cams aren't cheap like flat tappet cams.
desktop dyno showed a few HP gain by retarding the stock cam by 4 degrees, i'd wait to see if Ben chimes in though. His program is much more accurate.

well nevermind, you can't adjust timing other than the double roller.Ben

You could offset the alignment of the timing set by a gear, but not sure by how much that would adjust your timing. Probably more than you would want to...-Brad-

You could have another keyway cut in the crank gear...

I have used offset keys to shift the timing gear 4* advanced. It gives my Old Pontiacs more bottom end torque. If using a Ram Air IV cam I advance it 8*. You can feel the difference it makes and see it at the track. Just wondering if anyone had tried this on these V6's?

If you find something that doesn't require drilling holes, I would love to know about it.Ben
