    fiero 3500 swap...

I'm doing a 3500 (LX9) swap into my 85 fiero, I already have a 7730, and I know I need a crank trigger and a throttle body, is there a TB I can get at a junkyard that will bolt to the 3500 upper? I also need a new timing cover (mine was damaged in shipping) do I have to use one off of a 3500, or can I snatch one off of a 3400? what size injectors should I run since my fuel pressure will not be 65 psi like the late model cars?

    Thanks-

    Eric.

You can use a TB of a 3.5L Intrigue, but then you need an adapter for it to work. I'm not aware of any other TBs that will bolt up, besides the billet ones from WOT. Any 3x00 timing cover will work on the 3500. I'm not 100% on the fuel injectors, but I would think anything in the 19-24lb range should work.

Thanks, that makes getting a cover a little easier, my local yard if full of 3400's! I've heard I will need an alternator from an earlier model than the 3500 is, is there a specific one I should look for?

don't scare me with pics of destroyed pistons! my 3500 should be here thursday!

I'll keep it in mind, but I'm going to wait till the motor gets here and see just how bad it is.

I'm planning on adapting the retunless fuel system the same way you did, I read all over where people were trying to swap fuel lines and rails and whatnot, and I wondered way no one just put a reg in there!

I just hope I can get away with a stock replacement clutch for now, I just can't spring $300 for a centerforce right now, and I'd rather not put the swap on further hold...

id be afraid to do that, your looking at about a 45% hp increase(140 to 215ish) over the factory 2.8, guess if your not laying into it hard youll be ok... but i couldnt resist doing that :P

yeah, I'm afraid of doing it the wrong way, and my wallet's afraid of doing it the right way...

Right now, while I wait for the engine, I decided I should make room for the exhaust...

                  Grind away the goop

                  Cut out trunk floor!

The way I'm doing it, I will still have a trunk, It will just be smaller, and I'll have room for real mufflers!

I'll let you know if my (new) stock Fiero clutch slips with my 3400/3500 Equinox engine. It's rated about 20 horsepower less so if it slips then yours definitely will. If not well...I won't be of any help now will I

well, things are starting to come together, I need a few more parts, the big ones being a clutch and a HTOB, before I can throw it in and begin mocking up headers!

It would be one from an '01 cavalier, I already have one, but I don't know how it was treated, so I'm going to get a new one.
