to save money you usually keep the v6 retainers and get ls1 shims,idk about on gen 2 heads tho just see how they seat with gen 2 shims.

also if i were you and going with that much lift i'd just get the ls2

From my orignal idea;

Or should I go with:
B}}} LS6 Springs, LS2 shims, Gen 2 Retainers, & Gen 2 seats.
Where would I get the shims IF this is the right choise, GM stealer?

I am looking for something in the 6200RPM range.
Would LS2 get just as great?
If so would I do this:

Where would I get the shims, GM?

You cannot use Gen II retainers they do not fit the spring.

If you buy the comp springs you should be able to get them cheeper.

I believe the later LS6's and the LS2 use the same spring.

Nope I though so to but the LS 1 2 and 4 use the same, The LS6 is stiffer. The LS7 is stiffer still with a taller install height.

Comp Cams 26918 good to .615 lift (at coil bind) with your 1.7" install height on stock gen III retainers. These are stiffer than LS6 Springs. But I looked up a COMP Roller cam with 270 duration and 510 lift and its recommended spring is slightly less than this one. So with your added lift I would recommend this spring to you. Also they should be cheeper than GM aswell. They are a beehive spring with ovate wire. I have already installed this spring on my bros 97 Vortec they are great.

How about if I used LS7 springs, then do I still need the shims and then just use the Gen 2 seats, LS7 Retainers?

No dont use an LS7 Spring. It is a different diameter. You do not need to buy LS retainers use Gen III retainers. Why do you need shims? Just put the spring on the stock seat.

Yea that should work for you. You wont need to run a shim on the spring. Some people have mentioned locators. That will let you run any cam with up to 280 duration in the .5 lift range.

bu01: check with germ, I think he's got the perfect springs in mind for you that will handle your lift/rpm's without coil bind.

I had similar issues and he worked it out for me just fine.

Yea, I think the cam I am looking at would be the 272 or within that area, then for boost around 10 PSI. I want to see atleast 6400RPMs without float.

So my final choice is:
Gen III retainers, LS6 Springs, Gen 2 Seats.



Why would I want locators? For less of a chance of it moving? I kind of think I might want them, but if they really are no big deal.... I don't feel like finding those. If you think I would want them, link me with a part number could ya? Thanks.
