I have a feeling that swapping the engine in will be much easier and cheaper than swapping a manual transmission into a car that was never designed for one. I just thought I'd throw that out there, because I think something like a Cav would be much more fun to drive and much easier to get parts for. I like my V6 though

Also this way I can work on it and still have a car to drive, I'm not sure yet though.

Just out of curiosity, how hard would it be to swap a 60 degree V6 into a J-body (ie. a Cav). I've got a few quotes, and swapping in a manual transmission will cost anywhere from 3-5 grand into my car. I'm thinking I could probably get a manual tranny Cav for cheaper then that, work on a 3400 then swap it in.

The 97 ecm has more support than the 96 i believe. I don't have any connection with DHP so I don't know what all they support or how well on any of it.

You should get 3400 heads if you use a 3400 lower. You don't have to but its a better port alignment if you do.

Yes, 3400 and 3500 are swappable on a 3400 or 3500 lower. 3500 upper and lower together let you port it larger than the other setups.

Oh ok, so the UIM on the 3500 fits on the LIM of the 3400, and vice versa for the upper for the 3400?

Do I need get get new heads for those to fit on my 3100 if I keep it?

Also, someone said that I would need a PCM and a wiring harness from a 98 Lumina/Carlo up in order for me to tune, is that correct?

Edit: The question should read, "in order for me to tune with a powrtuner"

You cannot use the 3500 lower on the 3400 heads. You can use the 3500 upper on a 3400 lower.

To Isaac: I looked for your post, but couldn't find it. I guess it would help if the search function worked, but for some reason it doesn't work for me at all.

So that means I can swap just the 3500 UIM and LIM onto my engine? If so I that will be one of the things I'm going to do along with the TB.

Well i'm not sure if it makes a difference if my 3100 is a 2001, but. A new grinded Cam, UIM, LIM, and TB. Should get you the power you want and i think not positive its like 600 all together. Plus you should get a Cat Back Exhaust which will help as well. Thats about 500-1k and their relatively easy to install. If you want to go nos. Zex has a nice kit for around 500 which is a 75 shot and can be safely run on your engine stock with a 55 shot.

Im not sure what the rods are good to. Pistons are going to be weaker than the rods though.

What can the rods take? That is my concern now and that is what I only run a 100-125 shot. I want to step up to a 150 as soon as I get my FJO mini installed.

Crank is proven past 350. Stock rods with machine work are going to be good for a while as well, though it depends on the RPM and detonation control.

My bad I have that 220-250 now and it isn't jack to me so I have a totally different perspective. Build it right, build it once.
