LS1 isn't much stiffer. LS6/LS2 on the other hand are a lot stiffer. I wouldn't use the LS2/6 springs on a stock cam, just no reason for it. No harm to the valvetrain that I have seen reported but more pumping loss on the engine equals less power. Valve float wouldn't be an issue though:P

Would there be any benifit to using ls1/ls2/ls6 springs with a stock(3X00) cam? Any harm to the valvetrain?

I dont see that part number listed for the valve spring.

What is the LS1 spring part number from GM?

I can totally see the Comp springs being cheaper than the LS2/6 springs. The LS2/6's are 5 times more expensive than the LS1 springs.

cost +10% on gm parts here too and still the LS2/6's are 15 a spring (Cdn $) where as the LS1 springs are roughly about 3 $ per spring or so.

Good pics Geoff. I hand'nt seen the different retainer before.

    Springs are 26915-16 (or-1 order 12 times)
    Retainers are 787-16

The Comp springs were also cheeper than the LSx springs and I get Cost+10% on GM parts. So thats good news.

The shop here told me the stock LS2 spring should be good to about .580 lift on our motor (with some room to spare of course). I dont know if we have a reason to go to .550 lift but who knows. Nice find. Got the part numbers?

All you guys are installing your LS1/LS6 springs at a shorter install height than the spring is spec'd at. No big deal really. But if you are looking for a few more thou valve lift and/or an alternative retainer then check out this one from Comp. It is designed to be used when installing LSx springs on and LT1 or Vortec head.

Stock LSx retainer on the right.

Also for an alternative spring, Comp has this one which is stiffer than an LS6/LS2 spring. Good for a longer duration and higher lift cam such as a Milzy Stange 1 (maybe stage 2) or a comp 260 or 272 cam (for hybrid guys)
