    Question : do i need the cam gear holding tool?



    ill be doing the belt here next month and i am crystal clear ( i think ) on how to do it, but i dont know if i need the holding tool or not?

    It makes life so much easier to have it. You need something to hold the cam gear in place while you remove the bolt.

      what do people generally use if they dont have the tool? it seems like it would be easy to fabricate one, im kind of surprised no one makes them on here for some extra money.

            Yes, 2 different tools. The hold down tool is for timing, the cam gear holder is to get the bolt loose. I think they use vice grips and lock them together. I would just get the right tool off ebay or an online store. You don't have to get the whole kit.

                Camshaft Sprocket Holder - J-38614 \\ This is the one you want. I'm not sure what I would have done without it. You might be able to make a tool but this one really made it a simple process.
