    48 gram lifters!

They work I figured they would since its the same company that makes the 63 gram lifters I currently sell on the store. Didn't notice any difference in ticking or sound or anything compared to the other lifters but for the weight savings I think its a nicer upgrade. I will add them to the store soon, pricing will be 350 for the set of 24 vs 300 for the 63 gram lifters. Stock lifters are 77.1 grams (all weights as empty).

I also found some valve springs but have to get new seats to fit. They are 125# at valve seat vs 80# for stock (65# in 96), and 198# at max lift for stock cams vs 180# for stock (160# in 96). I think GM went with lighter springs due to smaller lifters being used, and probably also as a physical rev limiter though I have no proof of this. Anyway, I haven't priced a set of springs yet nor ran them to see how they work, but wanted to throw this in since thats the latest on what ive been up to. Oh, and the new springs will allow for .400 lift with plenty of room before coil bind. Probably a bit stiff for NA but I think boosted applications will find a use. With stock cams, you can fit a .015, .030 or .060 shim under them to make them stiffer. Ill be selling these shims on the store soon as well, $24 for a set of 24. Ill include all the spring specs using shims as well so you know what you are going to end up with using the shims.

    RE: 48 gram lifters!

Nice work. I hope to get a DOHC someday and use these parts.

$24 for all 24 springs, and shims? i think you missed a zero.

no, $24 for the shims. I dunno what the springs will cost me as I bought one for 17 bucks and that surely isn't gonna fly:P Ill have to see what kind of pricing I can get, though I need 23 more to test before I even consider selling them. I think they are a bit too stiff for my application right now, especially with the lighter lifters in there. Shims on stock springs would be good, though at the age of most of our motors, the new TRW springs are probably the best bet despite them being 72# and 172# vs 80 and 180. .060 shims brings them back to close to stock GM spec. I haven't given up on looking for springs, in fact the others I have found were all way too stiff or pathetically weak.

Well going with lighter lifters you can get away wtih a spring with less tension. Less mass to move to its easier for the spring to work. Using a lighter spring with a lighter lifter, and even better a lighter valve, would free up some hp and help the engine rev better.

The engine wont' have to fight as hard to counteract the force of the spring, trying to keep the valve closed, freeing up hp and allowign higher revs and it reving quciker as well.

With these mods, stiffer springs might not be necessary.

I have never heard of someone hitting valve float on these motors on the stock springs.

much higher then stock hp goals though and stiffer springs might be a must.

Nice find. 29 some odd grams off of each lifter is significant.

justout of curiosity, what would be some rasons to purchase the lifters? I know that revving higher is one, but what are some others? easier on the belt, easier on the cams? What else? Say that I want to rev to 7500, would the rest of the motor take it? I dont want to have to worry about spinning bearings. Also, I dont think that there is a rev limiter possibility for that high with the stock computer, is there? What about computer programming past 7200, would timing tables need work to get the engine to make the most out of those rpm ranges (assuming the intakes are free-flowing enough to take advantage of the rpm's)? Is there anyway to add a rev limiter higher than 7200 rpms?
3.4 DOHC- 95 engine, custom intake manifold, custom cams, ported exhaust manifolds, Turbonetics T-62, Haltech standalone, 13.5 psi, air/h20 intercooler... yadda yadda...
1987 Fiero, ST lowering springs, KYB's, Clutchnet dual diaphragm 6-puck, custom paint, 18's with falken fk452 225 front Nitto NT05 245 rear. Should be around 450whp...

The highest the computer allows to rev is 7150. After that you have to remove the limiter completely, or have someone that can redo the code so the limiter is higher (not an easy task). The lifters should help the engine rev up faster, plus less valvetrain mass = more power. The problem with hydraulic lifters is their inability to take super high RPM. I don't think 7500 would even be an issue but going over 8000 would be best suited for solid lifters.

Another good reason for these lifters, they are better and cheaper than the stock replacement lifters.

This may sound like a stupid question... but I've never taken my engine apart past the LIM.

I may be sending my heads to you for the advanced porting this summer. I was curious, I don't know where the lifters install, but if I purchased them, could you install them along with the new everything else (valves, guides, whatever comes with the porting)? I don't know if they seat in the head or what. I'm sure I would figure that out when I took the heads off though.

...The only engine I've ever torn apart and rebuilt was a 4 stroke briggs & stratton lawnmower engine. However this is why I'm going to Wyotech... I'mma learn this!

EDIT: I didn't want to sound like a complete retard. I know the lifters install between the cam lobes and the valves. I just meant I don't know how they are installed. If they are seated in the heads, whatever. I'd rather ask questions, look dumb, and get answers, instead of not knowing.

I believe you have to first install the heads and then the cam carriers, so they wont come assembled.

Ben, when you have the 48gram lifters available let me know, I am ready to buy!
