valve guide seals for gen 3

Has anyone run across the newer seals used in the felpro sets? They no longer have the crimp in the metal sleeve, and when you push the seat down it wants to pop the rubber seal off the top. I know there are the 2 colors, orange and blue for the different years. Is it 2000 that the larger guide was used? In the book its 01 or 02 I guess, which I don't understand because I thought 2000 they changed to the larger OD on the guide, like the old 2.8/3.1 guides.

yeah I think in 2000 they went larger.

I have 3 different valve stem seals now. the blue all have the crimp so far, but I have 2 different orange. The non crimp has the seal inside the casing vs the crimp that has the seal up on top and not so far down inside. I will take pics when I get home and post them. The machine shop is going to have some seals in tomorrow to see if they are the crimp or not.

that's one of the '91 2.2 seals from my 3500 heads, i also used the same ones on redbird's 3400 heads although his were blue and black (all exhaust seals still). I'll post up pics of his installed later.

iirc, '00 was a fuzzy year, i know 01 and up heads all have the same valve guide size as i've had '01, '02, '03 and '04 heads on the bench. I had some '00's once as well but that was like 3 yrs ago and i never looked..

Costs more to use seperate seat/seal for the shop so that isn't going to work out as well.

First pic is of the 3 versions. Left is 00+ (.553 OD guide), 94-99 .520? OD guide. 3rd is um...wrong. It fits the .553 guide no problem but if you look at the other pics, you can hopefully see what the seal itself looks like on the inside. Oh, and you can't make out the crimps in these pics

The metal part is a dull etched looking black vs the nice gloss black of the seals that have always worked well.

I was under the impression it's the same year that the rocker studs changed from 10mm to 8mm. IIRC Brad said '02

No, I have 3400 heads here with 10mm studs and large OD guides.
