But the object lesson here is that for under $30.00... you can get all of the basics necessary...at least for the most difficult and expensive things needed for this project.

I must correct the impression that the nozzles from this 1999 Oldsmobile Fuel Rail will be useful as part of the necessary three components. Like the stock GM Fuel Rail in the 93-95 4th Gen F-Body cars...this fuel rail is machined from extruded aluminum...and the nozzles are NOT like the earlier versions where the metal parts and tubing are made of Cadmium coated steel, but are rather drilled out of two blocks of the metal (one set of three nozzle ports per bank). This Aluminum flavored one could be used with a little tweaking ...but the builder would face the problem of the angle/cant of the nozzles as they are designed to steer the EFIs into the tilted in-ports on the Aluminum heads and so, doing Flow Balance Testing becomes problematic. But still... if one is attempting to make their own FrankInjector machine ...getting two out of the three needed components for not too much money...really isn't bad.

I went through as exhaustive and scientific a process as I could devise to be as comprehensive as possible while using your set of Rochester Multech EFIs (17103007) and I faithfully recorded each phase in a sequence of Nine (9) Videos that are memorialized on my Photo-bucket site listed here:

Store your photos and videos online with secure storage from Photobucket. Available on iOS, Android and desktop. Securely backup your memories and sign up today!

BUT WAIT.... Before you click on the link....you have to know more...

Now even though the last Video I shot will appear as the first available one to view there...it will be very important for your understanding of how all this was done...with a keen eye on searching out the differences in EFI performances between the BEFORE Videos...and the AFTER Videos so you can have a basis for understanding and be able to objectively evaluate the operation and reliability of the test results and procedures used so you can come to an informed decision about whether you think "The FrankInjector" Machine has any value in doing all phases of Electronic Fuel Injector Cleaning. If you merely watch these videos out of order... you will not be able to have a memory of the progression the cleaning of your set of injectors was put through. After you have had the chance to view and review what was done... Please respond to the questions I proffered directly to YOU during the production of many of these Videos. The are listed in order by title MAXEFITEST1 through MAXEFITEST9. That about does it and I will say no more... lest I prejudice your opinion prematurely.

However... I would appreciate some restraint on the part of other forum members from commenting on this latest update... at least until MAX has had at LEAST one try at viewing these videos... since the EFIs used in the test belong to him and he will be directly affected by them after making some decisions for courses of action necessary to take afterward.

Thanks in Advance for your kind attention to this last request...

      Bob.... Wow....

Very impressive work you have done!

Thank you for taking the time to document every step of the "Frankinjector" process. I was shocked to see my old injectors flow so poorly, or barely at all. As far as the "coagulation" of fluid inside the injectors is concerned I will just say that they have only been out of the car for a couple of months, giving the possibility at least that they truly did flow that poorly!

I am now truly sorry to have a set of injectors currently installed that have xxx,000 amounts of miles on them and assuredly have never been cleaned before.

With that in mind I will gladly accept your offer of the 99 oldsmobile injectors with their "18.2 lb/hr" specs which will surely be enough for my build especially considering my ability to up the fuel pressure with my holledy adj. FPR.

The only sad part as you may know is that it requires removing the whole upper intake plenum just to get to the fuel rail but it would probably be worth it in the end.

Again... thanks for taking the time to run my shit injectors through the famous "Frankinjector" machine!

      • Happy to help a Friend...

I'm not certain that you really need to remove the Upper Plenum. I have swapped a few sets on and off of Scotty's Black 94 Camaro.. .and never yet had to remove the UIM. It is very snug under there...but with a good air cleaning of the top end after spraying that entire area down with some engine cleaner to eliminate the presence of anything dirty dropping into the EFI holes...you should be able to wobble the Fuel Rail in and out ...just remember to oil up the "BLUE" EFI O-Rings B4 you try to guide the manifold rail back into position...when it all goes well...you'll sort of feel them "pop" right into the LIM holes... You just have to tilt both sides a little and they will cooperate...

        • Also...when they come to you...they will not have the old O-Rings and spacers on them because the spacers were either stretched or cracked and the O-Rings were baked hard on the LIM inlet sides of all six EFIs. The other precaution is that the spacers were a different color (Pale Green as opposed to being Black like the stock Kit for the 93-95 F-Body Cars) so...just get another O-Ring Kit and use the Rochester Multech EFI P/N 17109826 at the counter or ask for an O-Ring kit for a 1999 Olds V6.

          • I will be sending this set of 1999 EFIs up to you via USPS in the same/similar mailing box you sent the old ones to me... no later than tomorrow afternoon, Friday 12/11/09. Unless you object... I would like to keep your old set of EFIs P/N 17103007... as I may be able to mix and match some of them later down the road. Please let me know your mind about this B4 tomorrow morning and I will act accordingly in what I package up and send back your way.

By the by... I would consider the 19 PPHs that you have inside the car right now as merely being an extension of necessary Field Testing of "The FrankInjector" Machine... so you are welcome to send those down later if you like ...assuming you don't find a Tune B4 then that works using them to your delight...and I'll thrash those 19 Lb Puppies out on this machine as well... I mean...we really need to know the whole story...right? After that... you will be able to see the Video Logs of the tests and find out if they were up to snuff...or part of the problem... and if they clean up as nicely as I hope they will...you will have them back soon and be able to put them back in the engine later if the mood strikes ...and the the car is "Singing the RIGHT Tune"...

            • yes Bob, by all means keep my old injectors. Are you sure you don't have to remove the UIM to swap out the injectors? because i KNOW it's impossible to remove the fuel rail with the UIM still in the car.

And yes, of course i will send you the 19lbers to run the Frankinjector machine!!

Okay Max... I'll hang on to the old set...and Thanks. On the subject of changing EFIs without having to remove the UIM. What I said is completely true... The first time I had to do this was when the FPR bladder went on his Fuel Rail and after eyeballing the situation... I realized that taking off the UIM was completely unnecessary. The most difficult part involved the removal of the In/Out Fuel Lines and Brackets and controlling the fuel that wanted to leak out onto everything because as you well know...the engine sits so far back under the cowl...and with my hands as big as Ham Hocks...it was a tight fit trying to work with the wrenches and funky gimmicked Torx Screwdriver I had to concoct to be able to loosen the Fuel Line Flange on the back end of the Fuel Rail to remove the lines at nearly right angles. After unhooking the EFI Harness and unsnapping the connectors from each EFI...it was simply a matter for using a non-destructive wedge in the form of a slender board and a cut-off broom handle to dislodge the injectors from the Lower Intake Manifold...and just lift that baby out. At the time...I swapped in the Fuel Rail Manifold and just did everything in reverse and it worked out fine. I have done it at least two times since to swap out injectors (long before I ever dreamed of designing and building anything like "The FrankInjector") and always with the same results. It might actually be easier to R&R the Fuel Rail with the removal of the UIM...but like you...I did not want to have to mess around with replacing gaskets and the problems of trying to reach back into the engine compartment to properly torque everything back to spec. I'm not saying this is an easy repair...just that it can be done... and has been done ...by me. Just bear in mind that you want every last spec of dirt solvented, washed and and air blown off the top of the motor so no grit can travel inside the LIM and head intakes to do their dirtiest work inside the cylinders.

                • In the mean time...FWIW... you might start to figure out your next BIN set up so that when these arrive and you install them... your "Time to Tune" won't take such a Long...Time...to...Tune...At the very least...the fuel delivery won't be quite so rich as was the problem you are having with the current set. I hope these necessary adjustments don't put you right back to Square One...but unless I'm mistaken...these EFIs are also sported in the Lumina cars as well and your new ECM/PCM might feel more friendly towards them.

                  • oh, see i was hoping to remove the fuel rail without having to disconnect the metal part of the fuel lines into the fuel rail. I don't know if i'm comfortable with doing that. It won't take long to remove the UIM... it's just a huge PITA putting it back on.

Man i wish i had sent you my 19lbers before i installed them...

btw, could you do some snooping for me?? Find out if the "19lb" injectors that come on the 3.8 firebird/camaro 95-2001 are a true blue 19lb or maybe they are like our 3.4 "17lb" injectors that are actually 17.7

this will help me out with my tune right now.

                    thx

                    • Okay Max... Your 1999 Set of EFIs are on the way...(Santa stopped me on the way to the U.S. Post Office and tucked something into the box that he thought you might need. He kept saying something about saving him some grief because of his, "...not having a lap BIG enough for THAT Kid!" LOL... Anyway... I told him, "No Sweat...Let's combine shipping and save you a trip to "Southern Canada"...

If you have the Part Numbers for your EFIs...you can use this excellent, search-able On Line EFI Database at the link below that will give you all the dope on the ones you have installed right now. If not ...when you send them down to me in the reusable containers your new ones will arrive in soon, I'll put them through Hell on "The FrankInjector" when they get here and investigate their entire pedigree for you. In the meantime ...have a look at this place (the data sets are organized in ascending Alpha-Numeric Order...so the Rochester Multechs are down towards the lower pages)

                      • thanks Bob!! I found the injector part# in the chart you gave me a link to but it is blank in the columns that i need data for (the lb/hr rating) so i still don't know the rating.

I'll let you know when the package arrives, thanks again!

Max... If you wrote down the EFI Part # and it is handy... Post it here... and I'll poke around and try to get the other data elements filled in. You know... it might be that Stan's Online EFI Chart has a trick with using the dashes ( - ) (No ...That is NOT a symbol for a 'Tight Ass'... ) to indicate the data ABOVE the listing you want is relevant... but to quote a ZZTop lyric from the song "La Grange":

                          "I might be mistaken..."

                          • For those of you still contemplating or actually building your own versions of "The FrankInjector " Machine and trying to gather and assemble all of the required parts and pieces without spending a small fortune... This Fuel Injector/Fuel Rail Pressure Gauge and Quick Disconnect Hosing Kit is yet another necessary component available on eBay for $22.75 with FREE S&H. This price is about half of what this device usually costs and can also be used to test your Fuel Pump Pressure via the Schrader Valve on your engine fuel rail (NOT for GM TBI units):
