Okay me and my best friend are gonna race this summer at a grand prix meet in chicago. I have a 3100 and he has a 3.4. I know he can beat me stock. I was wondering what i can do to my 3100 to beat him. Its a 94 Grand Prix, his is a 92 Grand Prix. I was thinking a cam regrind or maybe the cam from www.mantapart.com for the 3100. Also gonna do UD pulley from FFP, DogBones from FFP. Is there anything else i can do or something i should do over those mods?? I plan on spending around 500-600. Is this even possible to do????

Ok so even with all that stuff you won't be close. Off the line you'll kill him, but around 40 he'll come hauling right on by as if you were in reverse. Basically, you need a 3.4 to beat a 3.4
Not really, but adding a turbo will barely get you by a 3.4, and that is with your current mods and 12psi and a 5-speed.

Adding a turbo will kill a 3.4 DOHC, cause its just the STOCK TGP that is close. Any little mod and they will kill the DOHC. If its an auto DOHC, his car could run anywhere from 16.2 to 15.2.
Stay away from mantapart, all their shit is overpriced. You can get a cam regrind from crower or you can wait for god knows how long for comp to finish their cams that drop right in. I havent followed anything on the comp cams so I dont have any idea on how long.
Ported heads and intakes and headers will be key for NA....headers doing the most benefit, especially with other mods.
If you just want cheap mods, you probably shouldn't race him and expect to win, especially if he does some mods.Ben

yes he's an auto and so am I, his car doesn't seem that much faster than mine, i know i'll smoke him off the line, i was hoping the UD pulley would get me a killer start off the line. As far as top end i know i lack there. I don't wanna throw down a bunch of money cuz next summer i hope to do the L67 swap. This is fun, its not about winning or losing, its about having fun and doing some mods. He has no mods really other than like gutted air box and stuff.

The L67 swap alone won't even beat it if he is running very strong. But if his doesn't seem that much faster than you, than he probably isn't. On the low end it will, through 1st and 2nd. But 3rd I think it will catch up. I was referring to stock TGP's. But even aftermarket the setup will be VERY similar to that of the TGPs, maybe with a better turbo. But the piping would probably be the same, so I doubt there would be that much of a difference unless he used headers into the turbo and all mandrel bent piping with a good front mount intercooler.

A turbo 3100 is gonna slaughter a turbo 3.1. You have to use a better turbo than the small ass TGP spinner.
L67 stock varies as well, so the slow end L67 and the fast end LQ1 are gonna be pretty even. The fastest stock DOHC auto though isnt gonna beat the fastest stock supercharged boat anchor though.
3.4 DOHC W body vs 3100 W body though is gonna be a major uphill battle for you. A few mods to the DOHC and anything short of boost, nitrous, or all out custom NA intake manifolds and exhaust and high compression...you get the point, isn't gonna cut it.
How much are you planning on spending and how far into the motor do you plan to go?Ben

I was thinking it was a 3.1, not 3100.
As for the TGP fan, it isn't that bad. Luke's, 12psi, pulled hella hard right to 5600, but dropped badly past that. But form what I've heard that is very characteristic to the NA 3.1 as well, dropping off after 5500. So it could be a combo of cam, intkaes, or turbo.
