i got mystery oil you know the stuff in the red can

i got the 3/16ths with a tape measure and a peice of sheet metal laying flat on the lifter not counting the thickness of the sheetmetal in my measurement.

I thought if you took the front valve cover off while running you would get oil everywhere...

BUT as far as the lifter goes, measure the height that the lifter is sticking out of the bore, you can see in this pic, I was taking a picture of lifter preload in this one... this is actually stock pushrods with the milzy stage 1 cam, so technically you could use the milzy setup but you just lose GM spec preload.

Using calipers will give you a better measurment since your probably talking about hundreths of an inch or so....

The LT1 springs are inside the lifters , dave posted about them a few pages back there just bigger and the main spring is a little stiffer helps with running larger cams.

im using the comp cams valve spings from the store here.

not so easy with this the heater core line prevents the valve cover from being removed but i got a way around this.
awhile back i got a setup from a minivan that ran the heater core line around the otherside of the enigne instead of in front of the valve cover.

but its getting around 38-39 psi of oil pressure at idle and you can see the oil flowing up through the oil filler hole.

thats the first thing i checked at startup with the noise was to make sure there was oil pressure.

im gonna see what walmart has for reg generic oil to fluush out the bulshit then once its straightened out go back to synthetic

it stick up 3/16 from the block. looks like i get to do the hose mod so i can get at the front valve cover.

same measurement for both intake and exhaust.
maybe ill go out and see what i can find for a basic set of calipers

oh yeah dont know if i told you buti got some u-joint things for the ratchets and i found my wrench in the back of the toolbox down the bottom

so are you telling me i have to take this thing apart again

No just measure how much the lifter itself is sticking up from the block, plastic thing not there...

how much the housing is sticking out really... If you had a set of calipers you could do that.

yeah i still got the old 3400 on the engine stand in my garage.
so basically measure how much the lifter travels with the pastic retainer in place.
ill have to find something to measure with.
the lifters i got in there with the LT1 springs are pretty damn solid.

only thing I can think of doing is if you still have that other 3400, throw a stock cam in it, and then measure the lifter height from the deck when on the base circle, then measure yours... for both intake and exhaust, then that will tell you how much longer your pushrods should be over stock... if they are longer than that, then um yeah most likely your issue.

I guess thats a bad vid to post because the damn headers sound like his tapping...

oh well, all I know is I have no valvetrain noises like his motor.

yeah my video took forever to upload. forgot to turn the camera off while i shut the scan off.

on a side not the idles good and my iac count is finally normal, you remember how low they were before.

on another not car related note i went and did the physical shit for the new job so given that that stuff takes a few days to get back to them i should be working soon

I just took a vid, all you can hear in my drivetrain is my headers ping, and the PCV valve chattering from the funky vac due to the cam... I'll post the link when it uploads to photobucket.

its getting to the point of if this cant be solved real soon, this car is going to join the beretta notice how thats not around anymore.

im really sick of dicking around with oh this might work and taking the engine apart for stuff that might fix the problem.

i expected some lifter noise that would eventually go away. but this has been run for about 20 minutes total so far.

who ever thinks that amount of noise is acceptable needs to lay off the drugs.
